What Are the Benefits of Installing Stone or Gravel in Your Garden or Landscape Beds?

Benefits of Using Rock or Gravel Mulch in Your Landscape Beds :

  1. Low Maintenance: Once installed, rock and gravel mulch require minimal upkeep, as they don't decompose or need to be replaced like organic mulches, making them a convenient option for busy homeowners.

  2. Effective Weed Suppression: When combined with a landscape fabric or weed barrier underneath, rock and gravel mulch significantly reduce weed growth by blocking sunlight and making it hard for weeds to take root. We use double-woven weed barrier fabric for optimal weed control in our installations.

  3. Erosion Control: The weight and stability of rock and gravel mulch are excellent for preventing soil erosion, especially on slopes or areas prone to heavy rainfall or strong winds.

  4. Water Conservation: By reducing evaporation from the soil, rock and gravel mulch help retain moisture, potentially lowering your need for frequent watering.

  5. Pest Resistance: Unlike organic mulches, rock and gravel do not attract insects, rodents, or pests, making them a better choice for areas susceptible to infestations.

  6. Temperature Regulation: Rock and gravel mulch provide insulation for your plants, protecting roots from extreme temperatures—both heat and cold—helping maintain soil stability.

  7. Aesthetic Appeal: Available in various colors, sizes, and textures, rock and gravel can enhance the design of your landscape beds, adding a stylish touch to your outdoor space.

  8. Durability: These materials are long-lasting and won’t break down over time, making them a cost-effective and sustainable landscaping solution.

Preparing Your Garden And Landscape Beds For Stone Or Gravel Mulch Installation

It's important not to simply spread stone or gravel mulch without first preparing your garden and landscape beds. For a professional-level installation, we start by removing any weeds and clearing out brush, undergrowth, or organic debris from the beds.

We also trim and prune shrubs, bushes, and surrounding tree cover to prevent organic matter from falling into the freshly laid mulch. Proper bed preparation ensures a cleaner, more attractive result and helps the mulch stay in place longer.

We can include garden and landscape bed preparation and cleanup in your estimate, making a noticeable difference in the overall appearance of your landscape once the mulch is installed.

Edging Your Garden Beds Before Stone Or Gravel Mulch Installation

We offer edging services for all of our stone and gravel mulch installations. While optional, we highly recommend it for a polished, professional look. Edging is done either with specialized equipment or by hand to create a clean, defined boundary between your garden beds and surrounding areas. This process not only helps to keep the stone or gravel in place but also prevents grass from encroaching on your garden beds.

The result is a neat, uniform appearance that enhances the overall beauty and structure of your landscape.
